TV licenses to be handled by Ministry for Competitiveness and Communications – Payments can be effected through all Maltapost outlets

Payments for TV licenses will be handled by the department of Corporate Services within the Ministry for Competitiveness and Communications as from 1st January 2005, Minister Censu Galea said when addressing the press on Thursday. The Minister was presiding over the signing of an agreement between the Department of Corporate Services within his Ministry and Maltapost which will enable the public to pay TV licenses in Maltapost Branches.

Minister Galea said that over 120,000 licenses are issued every year and this agreement with Maltapost will ensure that the public can pay TV licenses with least inconvenience by going to their local post office anywhere in Malta or Gozo.

When addressing the press, Minsiter Galea gave details of the agreement which will come into effect from the 1st of January 2005.

Maltapost will only accept payment of the full amount and within the date specified on the renewal statement.

Payment may also be made by cheque payable to Maltapost plc and addressed to PO Box 7, Victoria Gozo. VCT 101.

The renewal statement must be presented or sent when effecting payment either personally or by post. Maltapost will stamp, sign and return the statement and this will be the licencee’s receipt.

Maltapost will not handle requests for other transactions concerned with licensing such as new registrations, transfers, sealing, destruction and any other queries that may arise with regard to these licences. These have to be referred to the Director of Corporate Services of the Ministry for Competitiveness and Communications at Evans Building, Merchants Street, Valletta CMR 02.

Payments may also be effected at the Corporate Services Department at this department. The renewal statement need not be presented when payment is effected at the Corporate Services Department.

It is the sole responsibility of the licencee to inform the Corporate Services Department of any changes related to television licences.

Every licencee should note the renewal month when the licence fee is due for payment. In the event that the renewal statement is not received within the first ten days of the month when the licence is due for renewal, it is the sole responsibility of the licencee to contact the Department in order to be provided with the requisite renewal statement so that payment may be effected at any Maltapost Branch.

Until 1st January 2005, any payments and queries should be referred to any Maltapost Branch in Malta and Gozo.
